Congrats! You are now embarking on a great journey to adulthood. College experience is the best experience in the world but of course, the first day of your freshman year you feel like a freshman in high school all over again. I have a few tips to help ease your nerves and will let you make the best of your first year.
Tip #1 Learn where your classes/buildings are before classes actually start
During freshman week take the time to learn where your buildings and classes are, where the shuttles stop, and how long it takes to get from point A to point B. This lessens the amount of times you are late, looking confused and have to ask multiple people how to get around.
Tip #2 Buy only used books
For every class you will need to get some sort of book or access code. I recommend that you rent old books to save money, not everyone gets a refund check. If the campus book store is still high ,look into bookrenter.com.
Tip #3 Workout
The freshman 15 is real and if you don’t stay active it will show. Working out is also a great way to release stress. This whole college thing is new so a stress reliever is definitely needed.
Tip #4 Create a great relationship with your Advisor/ Professor.
This is really important, you will never know when you will need them. Also, it can create an opportunity for you that might would not have happened if you weren’t keeping a good professional relationship with your advisor/ professor
Tip #5 Balance
College is all about balance. Balancing priorities and fun. Get the college experience and have fun but also stay on your grades and let that be your number 1 priority. Remember you’re there to get a degree not the social butterfly award.
Tip #6 Confidence
Believe in yourself and have confidence in everything you do!!!!
Let’s make 2019 a great year. I hope all my first year college students find this helpful in their new journey. Peace and Love.
